An Alliance of Three Top Retailers in Serbia

The clients, namely the three leading discount retailers, decided to conduct an assessment of their current joint procurement operations, and more importantly an assessment on what the desired state of joint procurement operations would be in the future.

The aim of the project was to gain a strategic understanding on what the procurement alliance should look like, what they should focus on and what actions they need to take in order to remain competitive and to improve further.

Results
The study involved a comprehensive spend analysis, an internal analysis, both an individual and joint one, as well as a comprehensive benchmarking study of industry peers. The study identified several opportunities for improvement for all the parties involved as well as the necessary steps and requirements for further growth. Two of the three parties have already established a joint procurement office. By combining all the three parties’ volumes in the area of large quantities and similar products, huge cost savings can be achieved. After conducting a benchmark study and identifying all the industry trends and fields for improvements, the alliance was able to clearly distinguish to which areas they should give priority in their development.
